Minimally Invasive Hammer Toe Treatment

If you suffer from hammertoes, and the corns that can develop as a result, you know how painful and unsightly this condition can be. We can help alleviate the pain and get you back on your feet quickly.

What are hammertoes?

Hammertoes, claw toes and mallet toes, are toes that have curled into odd, sometimes painful positions. Hammertoes are caused by an imbalance in the bony architecture of the foot.  The tendons in the foot react by overworking.  Depending on which tendons are overworking causes either the hammertoe, claw toe or mallet toe deformity.

How is hammer toe treated at Northwest Surgery Center?

As is the case with all procedures at Northwest Surgery Center, we treat hammer toes with minimally invasive surgery. Depending on the severity of your condition, our board-certified surgeon will perform one of three minimally invasive surgical procedures. Minimally invasive surgery is fast, safe and more cost effective than other surgical procedures. And, if the hammer toes have caused the growth of painful corns, those will also be removed as part of your treatment.

If I choose to have surgery at Northwest Surgery Center for my hammer toes, what can I expect?

You’ll be treated in one of our modern surgery suites where we use the latest technologies and equipment. Under local anesthesia, a small incision (about a quarter of an inch) is made and a specially designed surgical instrument is inserted into this incision. The entire procedure is performed through this tiny opening. At the surgery’s conclusion a small bandage is used to protect the micro surgery area. The entire procedure – including pre-op preparation and post-op recovery – takes less than 90 minutes.
You’ll be able to walk and drive immediately following surgery and many of our patients go back to work the next day. You will need to wear a post operative shoe for about a week following the operation.
