How to Fix a Hammertoe

Suffering from a hammertoe can cause extreme pain, and can be quite unsightly to look at. Hammertoes are toes that turn downward, caused by unbalanced architecture in the foot. When your feet are constantly overworked, they can stiffen, which results in a downward curve. If left untreated, hammertoes can cause further issues for your feet, including infections or the growth of painful corns. If you are wondering how to fix a hammertoe, keep reading to learn about how Northwest Surgery Center can help.

How Do You Fix a Hammertoe?

Although hammertoes are painful and unpleasant to look at, they can be effectively treated with minimally invasive surgery. Minimally invasive surgery at Northwest Surgery Center is safe and more cost-effective than other surgical procedures. We will also treat all related conditions that might have developed as a result of hammertoes, such as the growth of painful corns. And, as an added bonus, our procedures are fast – the entire hammertoe treatment will take about 90 minutes, including preoperative preparation and postoperative recovery. At home recovery is simple, and most patients are able to resume their daily lives as usual following the procedure.

So, what does minimally invasive hammertoe surgery entail?

  • Patients will be treated in one of our modern surgery suites, where we utilize the safest and most up to date technology and equipment.
  • Patients will be put under local anesthesia before a small incision is made – the entire surgery will be performed in this incision, which will be about a quarter of an inch.
  • After surgery, the micro incision site will simply be protected with a small bandaid. From there, patients will begin their postoperative recovery. The entire procedure will take about an hour and a half.
  • Patients will need to wear a postoperative shoe for about a week following the operation, which is lightweight and comfortable.

Thanks to our minimally invasive surgical procedures from our board certified surgeon, learning how to fix a hammertoe is easier than ever.
