Hammertoes

What to Do for Hammertoe Relief?

Hammertoes, sometimes referred to as claw toes or mallet toes, are downward curled toes caused by an imbalance in the architecture of your foot. When the tendons of your feet are overworked, it is possible for them to stiffen, resulting in hammertoe. This is most commonly caused by footwear, the natural shape of one’s foot, and certain diseases or other unrelated medical issues.

While hammertoes are fairly common, they can be quite painful and unsightly. Hammertoes can limit the shoes you are able to wear, and can be a hindrance to your daily activities including walking, driving, and more. If you are experiencing an abnormal curvature in your toes or other pain, it is best to consult your doctor as soon as possible to begin discussing your options for hammertoe relief.

Hammertoe Relief at Northwest Surgery Center

While there are special tools such as corrective shoes and over-the-counter pain relievers intended to treat pain associated with hammertoes, the only long-term treatment for this issue is surgery. At Northwest Surgery Center, we offer minimally invasive surgery for hammertoe relief. This is a fast, safe, and cost-effective way to treat painful hammertoes and keep them from returning in the future.

Minimally Invasive Surgery

During a procedure at Northwest Surgery Center, patients can expect to be treated in a state-of-the-art surgery suite, where we are proud to use the latest technologies and most up-to-date medical equipment. Under local anesthesia, a small incision is made and a specially designed surgical instrument is inserted into this incision. The entire procedure is performed through this tiny opening. At the surgery’s conclusion, a small bandage is used to protect the micro surgery area. The entire procedure including pre-operative and post-operative care takes less than 90 minutes and is the most efficient way for patients to recieve treatment, even on a busy schedule

Patients can expect to walk freely after surgery, and can even drive themselves home from the procedure! Most patients experience little to no pain post-operation and can return to their regular lives, free from any discomfort associated with hammertoes.
