Considering revisiting treatment for your bunions or hammertoes? Let Dr. McCartan help you move forward.
Hallux Varus: A Revision Case
This patient was faced with getting her toe amputated or seeking a second opinion. Hundreds of patients see us each year that have had surgery somewhere else, and are still not happy with their foot. Waiting and waiting for another option – well, we are it! At Northwest Surgery Center, the differences between traditional surgery start the moment you walk into the door. No crowded waiting rooms or huge hospitals to navigate. You don’t need to be cleared for general anesthesia – which means no blood tests, urine tests, chest x-rays, EKGs, visiting several other doctors just to get your toe straightened. We don’t use any screws, wires or plates. Many patients think that screws and plates help prevent the bunion or hammertoe from coming back. Well – this lady has plates and screws, and had a wire sticking out of her toe – what do you think? Not wanting to go through the same process, she waited and waited, and almost went through with having her toe cut off! Well – now she is 2 months post correction – and could not be happier! We cannot get rid of the scars from previous surgeries, but we won’t add any new ones, and can save your toes, and straighten them for good!

This patient had three other foot surgeries prior to seeing Dr. McCartan. She was referred to us by her daughter, who was a nurse in a large academic hospital. Dr. McCartan had previously performed surgery on her daughter. Her mother saw how different the recovery period was. Here is the patient 2 months post-op. Walking on day one, immediately out of the surgical suite. Her painful calluses have fallen off for good. Her toes are realigned, and she has a new foot that she can slip into shoes and walk comfortably again. If you have had foot surgery before and are still putting up with painful, ugly toes – give us a shot. It’s a totally different experience, and we can help!

Lady had surgery years ago, was never really happy. Originally had wires sticking out of her toes and screws in her bunion. The bunion came back and the toes started to overlap, curl, and she developed a callus on the tips of her toes. MIS correction, no screws, wires or plates and only 2 wks in a small bandage. Now the callus is going away, her toes aren’t curling or crossed and the bunion is finally gone!
